VACANCIES IN THE MINISTRY OF ROADS
SENIOR SUPERINTENDING ENGINEER (MATERIALS)
- FIVE (5) POSTS (DEPARTMENT OF MATERIALS)
Salary Scale; KSh.40,835 - Ksh.49,636 p.m. (Job Group 'N')
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:
(i) have served satisfactorily in the grade of Superintending Engineer Job Group 'M' for a minimum period of three (3) years
(ii) be registered by the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya;
(iii) be a Corporate Member of a Professional Engineering Body recognized by this Institution;
(iv) have wide experience in the design, construction and/ or maintenance of Civil Engineering works including control and supervision of projects;
(v) demonstrated competence and ability to assess future work loads and, resources required thereof and to control finances for large projects;
(vi) wide experience in the administration of contracts; and
(vii) be capable of running a general engineering design office.
Duties and Responsibilities
An officer at this level may be deployed to perform general or planning duties or be deployed as a Provincial Roads Engineer.
Monitoring and executing ongoing and future development projects and programmes assigned to Civil Engineering consultants or executed by the Ministry of Roads personnel.
The duties and responsibilities include:
(i) overall supervision of roads and bridges construction projects undertaken by private contractors or by the Ministry of Roads and construction units;
(ii) enforcement of specifications;
(iii) quantity control;
(iv) dealing with international financial agencies on loan reimbursements; and
(v) supervising staff under him/her.
(v) planning and evolving plans for new roads and bridges; conducting feasibility studies for both short-term and long-range planning;
(vi) roads classification;
(vii) project evaluation including pre-and post-construction evaluation exercises
(viii) negotiation of funds with the Treasury and donor organizations;
(ix) road geometric and alignment design and pavement design;
(x) formulations of design of standards and specifications;
(xi) preparation of contract documents including Bills of Quantities; and
(xii) pre-qualification of contractors and briefing of consultants.
As a Provincial Engineer the officer will report to the Roads Secretary and will be fully responsible for running the provincial office including organization, administration and execution of routine maintenance, regravelling and resealing work within the province.
