Report to: Manager – Legal & Regulatory Affairs
Profile and Main Purpose of the Job: SimbaNET Com Limited is part of The Wananchi Group and one East African’s leading internet, data and entertainment companies, first Triple Play
brand, incorporating broadband internet, cable television and voice services.

The Legal Officer will work with WBS Legal & Regulatory Affairs Department, including but not limited to supporting the following entities in Wananchi Business Services (“WBS Portfolio”):
a) Wananchi Telecom Limited
b) Simbanet Uganda Limited
c) Alldean Networks Limited
d) ISAT Africa Limited FZC – UA)
e) ISAT Zambia
The Legal Officer’s key areas of responsibility with regard to the WBS Portfolio are as follows:
f) Preparing and reviewing contracts to be entered into with customers, suppliers, employees and consultants, with reference to templates and guidelines advised by the Legal Manager;
g) Ensuring continuous compliance, including conducting a compliance health-check, filing returns with concerned regulators, advising on advancements in laws and regulations, applying for licenses and attending industry forums;
h) Advising on risks, mitigation, required legal documents and compliance requirements for new engagements;
i) Dispute resolution, including negotiating settlements, attending to debt collection and correspondence with external legal counsel;
j) Assisting the Legal Manager in attending to intellectual property matters, including registration of trademarks.
k) Risk management - Assess legal issues within the organization and to ensure legal risks are mitigated and enhance protection of the organization
l) Maintain an efficient filing system and central custody of all commercial agreements, leases, licenses & permits.
m) Advising on compliance requirements, good corporate governance and best practice with regard to the activities of the companies;
n) Attending to company secretarial matters in consultation with the Legal Manager, including sending out notices to convene board and annual general meetings, ensuring that returns are filed, preparing minutes and effecting changes to company particulars as may be required from time to time;
o) Support and assist the Legal Manager, and undertake other duties as maybe assigned from time to time
  • A degree in Law;
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience;
  • Good analytical skills;
  • Good grasp of application of law in a business environment;
  • Experience in cross-border transactions would be an added advantage;
  • Ability to multi task and deliver on other tasks as may be assigned by the superiors from time to time, with minimum supervision.
  • Of good temperament, right attitude, innovative and responsive in carrying out their duties.
Required Competencies:
  • Admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
  • Excellent communications skills and strong negotiation skills
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken) and Kiswahili (spoken)
  • Ability to quickly grasp concepts, work under pressure, deliver to meet deadlines
  • Must be self‐driven, motivated, enthusiastic, positive and pleasant individual who is result oriented
  • Ability to interface and communicate professionally and politely at all levels within a corporate environment
  • Must have emotional maturity to enable them to work with customers who may sometimes be upset
  • Must be a team player and can demonstrate the ability to work with the various departments within the company to achieve the shared Vision
  • Ability to assume responsibility for accuracy and timeliness of work product
  • Ability to manage staff as well as facilitate change
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, weekends, and holidays as in when needed

  • This individual must have a strongly developed sense of responsibility and work commitment. He/she must be highly motivated and eager to learn.
  • He/she should be able to follow instructions and plans of action.
