Vacancy: Guest House Chef

A Medium Sized Hotel in Machakos Town is looking for a chef with the following required from him:-

Personal Duties
  • Maintain a neat well-presented appearance at all times.
  • Be efficient, welcoming, courteous, and helpful with both fellow staff members as well as guests.
  • Maintain the highest level of discipline and manner at all times
  • Establish good working relationship with other departments and employees.
General Duties
  • Prepare, cook and present quality meals as per the set seven day menu
  • Taste & test all food in order to ensure flavour conformity and temperature.
  • Help to conserve energy by minimising opening of fridges & freezers.
  • Assist with washing up of all crockery, cutlery, pots, pans, glasses when necessary.
  • Assist with the offloading, checking and sorting of weekly food orders.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as assigned by a manager or HOD.
Communication & Reporting Duties
  • Keep managers and supervisors informed of any shortcomings that may affect the guest experience.
  • Understand and execute any dietary restriction your manager or HOD communicate to you.
  • Report maintenance problems, breakages, fire and health hazards, security risks, accidents, lost items, shortages and any unusual behaviour or events.
  • Report any pest problems to your manager.
  • Report any behaviour or action that is considered an offence in accordance with the company’s disciplinary code.
Safety Duties
  • Wash your hands before and after handling any food.
  • Maintain and enforce food safety & hygiene regulations and Company’s food safety standards.
  • Ensure that all food preparation areas & equipment remain safe & clean.
  • Participate in cleaning the kitchen. Including ventilation, storage areas, fridges, freezers, walls, floors, ceilings, appliances, tools and work surfaces.
  • Ensure the proper safe use of gas equipment.
  • Assist management in ensuring guest expectations are met.
  • Take responsibility for produce & stock and mitigate losses thereof.
  • Take responsibility for the upkeep and proper storage of all kitchen equipment.
  • Show an interest in and assist management in managing food cost and budgets
  • Assist with the monthly stock takes and weekly food orders.
  • Ensure meals are ready in accordance with guests needs.
  • Ensure that all dietary requirements are taken into account and adhered to.
