The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization that carries out high quality, policy-relevant research on population, health and education issues facing sub- Saharan Africa. 

Our goal is to generate evidence for meaningful action to improve the lives of all Africans.
 
APHRC seeks to recruit two research assistants for two of their projects.
 
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in conducting in-depth interviews and focus group discussions.
  • Assist in transcription of qualitative interviews
  • Record daily field notes with details of data collection activities undertaken and emerging questions or lessons from the field
  • Assemble all data (audio recordings, transcripts, typed notes, etc.) into an organized package for sharing with the project lead
  • Assist in compiling progress reports final report detailing the qualitative data collection process, and main observations
  • Keep updated records and data bases of assigned work
  • Timely and accurate accounting of project finances
  • Timely reporting of project related issues for quick and effective troubleshooting
Qualifications and Experience
  • Undergraduate degree in a social science discipline
  • Previous experience conducting qualitative data collection in under-resourced settings
  • Ability to organize individual interview and focus group discussions
  • Willingness to take initiative, multi-task, and to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Fluency in Swahili
