Job Vacancy: Aquaponics Farm Manager

Tinder EcoProducs Ltd, in partnership with several Netherlands and Kenya-based organisations, will be setting up an innovative aquaponics demonstration farm nearby Nairobi. 

The farm, which is located in Kiserian, will produce hydroponically - grown organic fruits and vegetables in ~1,000m2 of greenhouses, as well as fish. Basic accommodation can be provided on-site.

 
Periodically, advanced training will be available during visits from aquaponics experts from the Netherlands.
 
The company is looking to hire an experienced farm manager to oversee the day to day operations.

Responsibilities 
  • Planning of all seeding and harvesting activities
  • Managing all on-farm activities
  • Plant health
  • Stock control
  • Ensuring that all farm activities are carried out in line with Standard Operating Procedures and health and safety requirements
  • Trialling of new products
  • Environmental control system management
  • Pest control
  • Nutrient balancing
  • Water testing
  • Fish Farm Management
  • Fish health and feeding
  • Fish harvest
  • Storage and packaging in preparation of sale
  • Liaising with Sales staff to make sure they know what produce is going to be available and when
  • Providing regular Farm Operations reports to the management team
  • Staff Training
  • Conducting Farm Tours
  • Monthly reporting to the Board of Directors on progress and targets
  • System maintenance
Requirements
  • A university graduate with a degree in agriculture, biology, ecology, or environmental sciences with a concentration in aquaponics, hydroponics, fish or fish science preferred.
  • Knowledge about advanced urban agriculture systems (e.g., aquaponics, hydroponics, vertical farming, etc…)
  • Keen on learning, growing, and contributing with a small team of experienced people in a dynamic environment
  • Experience in designing/building aquaponics system(s) is desired
  • Knowledge in hydrology, fluid dynamics, and aquatics biology would be an asset
  • Ability to work independently while contributing in a team environment
  • Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency in all MS Office applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment;.
  • Must be comfortable taking initiative and working with minimal supervision.
