Head of Sales, Marketing and Retail Merchandising Job in Nairobi Kenya

Duma Works is recruiting a Head of Sales, Marketing and Retail Merchandising for our client in Nairobi. This is a great opportunity to join a leading Ladies Fashion Brand in Kenya. 

The Head of Sales, Marketing and Retail Merchandising will be one of the most senior positions in the business, becoming the custodian of sales growth, marketing presence and ultimately of top-line commercial performance. 

Responsible directly to the Managing Director the scope of this role is virtually limitless, and an entrepreneurial spirit and hunger for success will be critical.
Leading three teams, this role is all about making an already strong and brand even better, focusing on driving ROI, footfall/traffic (both online and in store) and above all, consumer engagement.

Alongside traditional retail, sales and marketing strategies, the appointee will be tasked with leading, refining, evolving and developing a market leading eCommerce strategy including website design, functionality, effectiveness and delivering the highest levels of service, all whilst operating in the most commercial and strategically ambitious manner possible
Key Accountabilities
Strategic Oversight
  • Overseeing retail operations, marketing and merchandising within the company, ensuring synergy across all functions – e.g. reviewing the performance of each phase of a new collection: How was the Launch handled? Was the right stock in the right stores at the right time? Did marketing activity deliver as planned? Etc.
  • Managing, Coaching and Supervising the work of our marketing, sales and merchandising staff to ensure productivity, overseeing the production and analysis of regular reports, as well as in pricing, budgeting, and creating profit and loss statements.
Sales & Marketing
  • Overall responsibility for the sales and marketing performance of all our offerings (including online); designing and delivering the company multi-channel marketing strategy
  • Increasing the impact, usability, functionality, conversion and overall appeal of our website and eCommerce channels, including developing and optimising new and eCommerce platforms, and designing new and innovative eCommerce solutions
  • Ensure delivery of the highest levels of customer service across all channels.
  • Design and define the multi-channel promotional calendar, while driving footfall and increasing brand awareness through promotional campaigns, media advertising, social media, e-mail, PR, affiliate marketing and local marketing.
  • Deliver integrated multi-channel campaigns that drive traffic across all channels and ensure consistency of message across all channels, in accordance with brand guidelines
  • Oversee internal marketing communication and ensure accuracy, simplicity and relevance.
  • Develop new ways to engage with customers to drive footfall, retention and spend, project managing new marketing initiatives
  • Overseeing the entire merchandising process within the company, including planning and developing a strategy to enable us to sell a range of products that delivers sales and profit targets.
  • Managing the merchandising team and the development of our merchandising plans in order to ensure that we always have the right merchandise (styles, colours, sizes) in the right place (store, location, properly displayed), at the right time, in the right quantities (minimizing stock holdings and reducing the amount of markdowns throughout the year) at the right price (that will attract customers in spite of competition, yet generate a good return for the company).
  • Oversee the analysis of past sales figures/trends to anticipate future product needs, and regularly monitor stock movements in order to consider when new orders, markdowns, inter-branch transfer, promotions or clear outs are necessary.

Position Requirements
  • A bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or visual communications
  • Expert in the Fashion Retail Industry with minimal 7 years’ experience
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Experience in developing merchandising and sales strategies within a brand that has a strong identity
  • Knowledge of computers and software program, with previous experience of working with Retail Management / POS Systems / Loyalty Programmes
  • Retail and On-line Marketing experience, including experience driving engagement through Social Media
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills to interpret sales performance and market trend information.
  • Ability to understand current market trends and buying psychology.
  • Creative talent
  • Demonstrated passion for product and strong “story telling” abilities
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with fluency in English
  • Good motivational and presentation skills
  • Ability to lead within own function and cross function
  • Strong commercial and negotiation skills
