Role Purpose: Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) represents a crucial aspect of quality management within Save the Children. 

The post-holder will be responsible for the establishment and implementation of emergency specific M&E systems that accommodate the need for lesson learning and beneficiary accountability. 

S/he will be expected to guide, advice, and support building of the capacities of emergency team in these areas (MEAL) in order to achieve outcome/impact focused projects and compliance with SC and donor policies and requirements. 

S/he will also maintain a central and systematic information management system whereby relevant project information, data and lessons are documented and communicated to inform ongoing implementation and future programming. 

The objectives of the role will be:
  1. To develop, implement and manage Monitoring, Evaluation and Accountability systems including collating, compiling, analyzing program learning and subsequent reporting of all RMCPU Programme interventions;
  2. To develop, implement and manage Accountability to Beneficiaries mechanisms which are contextual, effective, accessible and safe for beneficiaries to share and access feedback on RMCPU Programme interventions;
  3. To contribute in carrying out evaluations/assessments for identifying impact, learning and new areas of intervention or improving existing interventions
Contract Duration: 1 year
Location: East and Southern Africa Regional Office - Nairobi
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences, international relations and/or related fields
  • Experience of working in planning, monitoring and evaluation, audits or a similar field in an emergency setting with practical experience of developing information assessment systems and also undertaking evaluations.
  • Demonstrable understanding of current principles/ approaches of Monitoring, Evaluation and accountability in emergency or post conflict context
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in English
  • Strong relationship building skills and capacity to deal tactfully and sensitively with a wide range of people in a large organisation and at a distance.
  • A flexible and resourceful attitude with the ability to manage and prioritise an unpredictable workload.
  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills in order to understand the range and content of the emergency programmes’ work and provide practical solutions to operational challenges.
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point)
  • Proven data analysis and report writing skills
  • Good understanding of child participation, child protection and child rights governance issues
  • Knowledge of regional bodies such as the African Union, East African Community, SADC, ECOWAS and Eastern Africa Standby Force is an added advantage
  • Cross-cultural experience, understanding and sensitivity;
  • Strong self-starter who is able to take initiative
  • Commitment to Save the Children aims, values and policies, including child safeguarding and data protection
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills;
