Business Development Manager Job in Nairobi, Kenya

Duma Works is recruiting a Business Development Manager for one of our clients; an established Public Relations and Strategic Communication firm in the region.

The Business Development Manager will support their market expansion. 

They are seeking to recruit an experienced self-driven and proactive individual; well versed in developing, refining and implementing strategic growth opportunities within and between organizations as well as target industries.
He/she will be responsible for the formulation of business development strategies in line with the strategic plan of the organization; set and ensure the achievement of client acquisition targets in key segments, profitability and growth.
Career Growth: The successful candidate will build a career using world class tools and processes for brand building from the firm’s global brand partner and will be part of the top management.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
New Business Development
  • Proactively identify and stratify a base of ideal clients that the Firm has the opportunity to win, serve and lock; plan for acquisition of ideal clients who seeks the Firm’s value proposition,
  • Execute the Business Development strategy to market the Firm’s offerings; identify and generate business leads and close on prospective clients, as per set targets,
  • Develop and manage a prospect pipeline to identify and track market intelligence to convert new business opportunities into clients,
  • Plan approaches and pitches – Work with the account teams to develop proposals and prequalification that speaks to the client’s needs, concerns, and objectives.
Client Retention
  • Present to and consult with mid and senior level management on business trends with a view to developing new services and products to enhance existing relationships in the Product & Service Industry,
  • Develop, implement, follow through, co-ordinate and report on all client satisfaction surveys for all the existing Firm’s clients at the end of the project, semi-annually and annually.
Management and Research
  • Attend industry functions, such as association events and conferences, and provide feedback and information on market and creative trends,
  • Present business development training and mentoring to account teams to contribute effectively to proposal and other business development efforts.
  • Develop, refine and execute the firm’s brand building initiatives and be the champion for establishing the firm’s differentiated strategic market position based on its offerings,
  • Using knowledge of the market and competitors, identify and develop the company’s unique selling propositions and differentiators.
Minimum Requirements
Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Communication, Marketing or related Business Course.
  • An advanced qualification in management and possession of a professional marketing qualification will be an added advantage.
  • At least 5 years hands on experience in planning, developing and growing new business in a service organizations. Candidates with business to business experience are preferred.
  • Self-driven and motivated and able to work under minimum supervision
  • The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to innovate concepts in communication products and services and sell them to diverse audiences.
  • The role requires an individual who is adaptable to different business development methodologies spanning from traditional responding to RFPs to relationship driven business development.
  • The individual should have strong verbal and presentation skills and the ability to lead a team effectively.
  • Prior experience in brand building/ managing clients in the Public Relations/ communication/ Marketing and advertising industry will be an added advantage in the expansion of existing client base.
Key Skills & Competencies
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to effectively articulate the firm’s strategy and product offerings; excellent presentation skills, both written and oral in English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build long term, high quality and trusted relationships.
  • Possess outstanding analytical and problem solving capacity.
  • Commercially oriented and result driven with a track record of successful delivery and an ability to identify new opportunities.
  • Strong leadership skills; approachable individual by the team members
  • Demonstrated knowledge in creating a good business pitch and proposal development.
  • Knowledge on inbound marketing.
  • Ability to negotiate and persuade decision makers in the market.
  • Adaptability to complex business challenges requiring non – traditional solutions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in developing & maintaining profitable business relationships through networking and other approaches to build a client base.
  • Knowledge of the agency business.
