Finance Manager Job in Nairobi, Kenya

Job Title: Finance Manager
Reports to: Country Manager
Direct Reports: Accounts Assistants & Finance Interns
Salary: 100,000 – 150,000 gross
Location: Nairobi

Our client is a marketing services company that specializes in partnering with well-known, FMCG, Retail, and Consumer Durables brands to create winning Point of Purchase programs through field Marketing and Brand activation activities.

Job Summary: Overseeing all day to day activities of the finance team and ensuring the company’s finance function is organized, efficient and produces timely & accurate financial and management accounts.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables:
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Ensure that appropriate financial systems and internal controls are implemented and maintained throughout
  • Ensure adequate controls and processes that are to a standard which is endorsed by internal and external audit
  • Make recommendations to encourage the continuous improvement of financial performance and implementing relevant policies within the business
  • Conduct reviews and evaluations for cost-reduction opportunities
  • Ensure financial risk management & control that will maintain financial health of the organization
  • Developing external relationships with appropriate contacts, e.g. auditors, solicitors, bankers and statutory organisations
  • Ensure that accounts payable, including employee claim reimbursements are paid in a timely & accurate manner
  • Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly
  • Process payroll payments & statutory payments in a timely and accurate manner
  • Ensure that periodic bank & payment reconciliations are completed
  • Accurate and timely preparation of group financial management accounts.
  • Provide financial analysis as required for contract negotiations, capital investments, pricing decisions, potential disposals and acquisitions
  • Liase with auditors to ensure appropriate monitoring of company finances is maintained
  • Develop trends and projections for the company’s finances.
  • Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations
  • Management and control of cash-flows, working capital and budgets.
  • Responsible for facilitating and ensuring budgetary control through calculating variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
  • Timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, reports, cash-flows, budgets & forecasts and maintenance of the same.
  • Analyze costs, pricing, variable contributions, business results and the company’s actual performance compared to the business plans.
  • Management of the finance team.
  • Take full responsibility for performance of all direct reports, motivating and managing them in relation to quality standards and agreed benchmarks and objectives, focusing on all aspects of sound people management:

  4. On-the-job training, coaching & mentoring
  • Continually inspire, motivate and develop finance Intern(s) to understand what is expected of them.
  • Follow through to ensure that personal quality and productivity standards are consistently and accurately maintained including meeting all deadlines.
  • Ensure  data integrity of all reports to client and management.
Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements:   
  • BS/MA degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics    
  • Professional qualification such as CPA or similar
  • At least 4-5 years Financial Management experience in retail/FMCG; management or supervisory experience is a must.
  • Strong interpersonal, Communication & presentation Skills
  • Solid understanding of financial statistics & accounts principles
  • Working knowledge of local statutory legislation and regulations
  • Excellent Time Management and organization skills
  • Abillity to actively and consistently maintain high standards of professionalism in all aspects of personal presentation and delivery
  • Demonstrated consistent application of internal procedures.
  • Plan and prioritise, demonstrating abilities to manage competing demands
  • Demonstrated abilities to anticipate and manage change
  • Demonstrated flexibility in balancing achievement of own objectives with abilities to understand and respond to organisational needs
