Inades - Formation Kenya, with head office in Machakos, is a medium size membership based Kenyan NGO, affiliated to Inades Formation International network, present in 10 African countries (Cote D’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Togo, Tchad, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya and Tanzania). 
 
Inades Formation Kenya has over 18 years of experience, working for the social and economic advancement of rural communities in Kenya through action training
and extension services, development studies and research, publications, technical support to community development initiatives, lobbying and advocacy.

The major domains of focus are smallholder Agro-enterprise Development, community micro-finance, natural resource management and climate change adaptation, community development and local governance and community policy advocacy.
 
Inades-Formation Kenya is looking for a suitable candidate to fill up the position of Managing Director.
 
Main Purpose
 
As the Chief Executive Officer and Secretary of the Association, accountable to the Board of Directors, the Managing Director will:
 
i. Strategically lead, develop and direct the implementation of all aspects of Inades Formation Kenya work, in line with its vision, mission and strategic objectives and as an effective member of the Inades Formation International network.
 
ii. Ensure that Inades Formation Kenya is positioned as a leading NGO in promoting the social and economic advancement, and well-being of disadvantaged categories of people in Kenya, especially rural communities, to deserve public and stakeholders’ confidence and trust and ensure that the Inades Formation brand is respected within the country and internationally.
 
iii. Ensure excellent standards in the management of the human, financial, capital and technical resources of Inades Formation Kenya, which includes “inspiring and maintaining high standards of work and clear accountability to stakeholders”.
 
Specific duties and responsibilities
 
i. Promote Inades-Formation Vision, Mission and core values among the staff and partners and ensure these are the core foundation of the office outreach strategies and development of working partnerships.
 
ii. Represent the organization in transactions with relevant Government Departments, Donor Agencies, project partners and NGOs and ensure compliance with legal and contractual requirements, sharing of information about the organizations work, and building strategic alliances.
 
iii. Act as Inades-Formation Kenya’s liaison with the General Secretariat of Inades Formation International, to keep them up to date on program implementation, financial situation, and any contacts made with donors.
 
iv. Ensure program quality and organizational stability through development and implementation of standards and controls, systems and procedures, and regular evaluation.
 
v. Work with office staff to develop growth strategies and ensure high quality program implementation, effective and efficient response to the needs of target populations, especially rural communities, in line with the organization’s vision, mission and strategic objectives.
 
vi. Lead in securing stable funding for programs, researching and identifying potential donors (Foundations, Embassies, Bilateral organizations, NGOs, other non-traditional sources), coordinate new project and proposal development, research and follow up on appropriate opportunities, and play a lead role in building/maintaining relationships with potential, current and past donors.
 
vii. Provide leadership in the development of Annual work plans and budgets, and ensure that the office is achieving its expected annual targets at all levels.
 
viii. Ensure that a programs’ monitoring and evaluation indicators exists and champion the office team in proper implementation of performance evaluations on an annual basis for the whole organization.
 
ix. Conceptualise and oversee the production of appropriate marketing materials on the organization’s work, in collaboration with program officers and administrative staff. This will include producing project fact sheets, sectoral and/or geographic focus brochures, past performance documentation and others.
 
x. Ensure that human and financial resources and property of the Organization are used in the most effective and efficient way and maintain the highest standards of quality and accountability through compliance with Inades Formation management rules and procedures, terms and conditions of service, decisions and instructions of the Board of Directors and General Assembly resolutions.
 
xi. Ensure that appropriate books of accounts are kept by the organization and order to be prepared annual audited statement of accounts for presentation to the Board of Directors for approval and forwarding to the General Assembly for final approval.
 
xii. Ensure the timely production of relevant financial and technical reports, according to partnership agreements signed and reporting standards of support and donor partners.
 
xiii. Ensure capable staff members are available to implement the office strategy and operational plan, lead and manage the office team in a way that facilitates a high-performance culture, - learning and development, transparency, accountability, and employee engagement staff care and well-being.
 
Skills and experience
 
i. Master’s degree or equivalent in Project Management & Planning, Business Administration, Agricultural economics, Economics, Development studies, Agriculture, Agricultural Extension, International Development, Micro-finance, Environmental Sciences or equivalent.
 
ii. Minimum of 3 years work experience in not-for profit/NGO management, development project management or similar senior positions in a medium size NGO – 10 to 25 employees.
 
iii. Experience in strategic and operational planning in development work and organizational development. Ability to translate broad goals into achievable steps. Anticipates and solves problems and takes advantage of opportunities.
 
iv. In depth knowledge of Rural development challenges in Kenya and good knowledge of National and International development policy environments and challenges.
 
v. Experience in staff management, staff capacity development planning and execution.
 
vi. Knowledge and experience of fund development and general resources mobilization and management
 
vii. Experience in management of donor relationships and demonstrated ability in developing successful proposals, project planning, implementation management, monitoring and evaluation and reporting to donors and partners.
 
viii. Experience in building and managing strategic alliances, strong interpersonal/networking skills and assertiveness. Having high level of personal skills is required to make formal, persuasive presentations to groups and to deal effectively with people from all segments of the community
 
ix. Experience in financial management and internal controls, budgeting and monitoring of budget implementation, interpretation of financial statements.
 
x. Experience and commitment to working in a team environment.
 
xi. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
 
xii. Fluent in English and Swahili (spoken and written); knowledge of French will be an added advantage.
 
xiii. Strong computer skills (word, excel, outlook, power point).
 
xiv. Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, good judgement and commitment to addressing poverty, especially in marginalised rural communities.

Terms and Conditions
 
Attractive remuneration, commensurate with the responsibilities of the position, and negotiable on the basis of qualification and experience;
 
The successful candidate will be offered a 3 years’ renewable contract, with one- year probation. 

Other conditions of service are as promulgated in the organization’s Terms and Conditions of service.
 
Duty Location: Head office of Inades-Formation Kenya in Machakos town with frequent travels.
