Legal Officer Job in Kenya

Position: Legal Officer
The Role: To handle the legal affairs of the organization. 

S/he will work with other legal staff to address the internal and external legal concerns of the business. 

This professional must have superb legal skills and discipline to keep the company functioning and out of legal trouble.
  • To give legal advice to upper-level staff to ensure the best legal approach is taken for business ventures.
  • To advise them on matters of constitutional and national law. He may have to handle conflicting legal matters that involve international, public, and private law.
  • To present information on a written or oral platform that all associates and staff can understand.
  • Whatever legal advice the officer offers must coincide with existing laws. As an administrator, he must promote strong relationships with partners and clients of the corporation.
  • Responsible for drawing up and submitting major contracts, agreements and other legal documents.
  • To prepare and monitor the budgets and expenditure on certain projects.
  • Must research different information to make sure the company is acting in accord with all applicable laws.
  • As projects are approved and made available, the legal office keeps and manages portfolios for such projects
  • Giving accurate and timely counsel to executives in a variety of legal topics
  • Collaborating with management to devise efficient defense strategies
  • Specifying internal governance policies and regularly monitor compliance
  • Give accurate and timely counsel to executives in a variety of legal topics (labor law, partnerships, international ventures, corporate finance etc.)
  • Collaborate with management to devise efficient defense strategies

  • Research and evaluate different risk factors regarding business decisions and operations
  • Apply effective risk management techniques and offer proactive advise on possible legal issues
  • Communicate and negotiate with external parties (regulators, external counsel, public authority etc.), creating relations of trust
  • Draft and solidify agreements, contracts and other legal documents to ensure the company’s full legal rights
  • Deal with complex matters with multiple stakeholders and forces
  • Provide clarification on legal language or specifications to everyone in the organization
  • Conduct work with integrity and responsibility
  • Maintain current knowledge of alterations in legislation
  • Proven experience as a legal counsel in business environment
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of corporate law and procedures
  • Full comprehension of the influences of the external environment of a corporation
  • Demonstrated ability to create legal defensive or proactive strategies
  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity
  • Sound judgement and ability to analyse situations and information
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • BSc degree in Law or J.D. degree
  • MA or BSc in Business Administration will be considered an advantage
  • Must be a member of the Bar
  • Must have at least 10 years’ experience working for a corporate organization
