Laboratory Technologist

Professional Qualifications and Experience
  • Certificate in Medical Laboratory
  • One year experience in a similar/related role, preferably working in a Hospital
Key Duties
  • Conduct chemical analysis of body fluid, including blood, urine and spinal fluids to determine presence of normal and abnormal components.
  • Ensure that the department necessary medical record books, registers, files, equipments and IT machines are taken care of well and in good working condition.
  • Enter data from analysis of medical tests and clinical results into computer for storage.
  • Ensure that medical ethics is practices at all times and promote team work.
  • Establish and monitor programs to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results.
  • Ensure that all laboratory requests are paid for and recorded accordingly and an accurate clear records of all tests done and accounted for.
  • Shall be responsible for the specimen taken from patients or client and the result produced.
  • Obtain, cut, stain and mount biological materials on slides for microscopic study and diagnosis following standard laboratory procedures.
  • Shall ensure that the blood bank is maintained including adequate reagents.
  • Provide technical information about test results to doctors and clinical Officers as need arise.
  • Prepare and compile monthly statistical data and submit to Medical records office and copy to the Administrator.
  • Ensure that the laboratory equipments, machines and apparatus in the unit are well cared for.
  • Ensure timely communication, order for the needed reagents and other supplies in your units.
  • Report on timely basis all the breakages and explain the cause in writing to the administrator.
  • Ensure that you warmly receive and communicate to the patient/client appropriately.
  • Ready to be re-allocated in times of need to another unit within the department.
  • Undertake any other assignment given to you by the Supervisor.
