KOICA Project Officer (Maternal and Child Health Project) Job in Nairobi, Kenya

Korea International Corporation Agency (KOICA) is a bilateral grant aid agency for the South Korean Government. 

We are recruiting a Project Officer for the Maternal and Child Health Project (MCHOP) in Kenya

Terms of engagement: Contract
Reports to: Country and Program directors 

This role is project based working from KOICA office in Nairobi. There might be occasional business trips to Kajiado county.

Directs reports to: Program Manager and coordinator
Who to collaborate with
  • Internally- all KOICA staffs
  • Externally- the County and sub-county staffs and the county administration
Project 1: 
  • Increasing service accessibility and availability  
  • Conduct outreach medical services
  • Strengthening the referral system through provision of ambulances
Project 2: 
  • Raising awareness
  • Revitalizing the non-functioning community units
  • Creating new Community units in communities with no CU
Project 3: 
  • Improving service readiness
  • Capacity building for medical staffs
  • Provision of basic essential equipment to health centers and dispensaries  
  • Covering all projects: Monitoring and evaluation
  • Project M&E, monthly, quarterly and semiannual meetings
Main Duties
  • Provide secretarial and accounting support for office and MCHOP project
  • Follow up on payment requests and other financial matters related to the office and MCHOP program
  • Compose and type routine correspondence (letters, faxes, memos, e-mail, etc.).
  • Build and maintain positive working relations with governments (County and central) and other partners in support of or relating to MCHOP project in the project area
  • Compile, store, and retrieve team operations’ data, using computer.
  • Attend meetings, type agendas, record, and type and distribute minutes of meetings.
  • Collect and collate/compile monthly, quarterly or any reports and data required information relating to the project and submit this to the program manager/Director in time
  • Liaise with ward PHO to plan for  community mobilisation and sensitisation programmes, to ensure maximum participation of women and children in the outreaches
  • Sensitise the stakeholders and the target communities about MCHOP project and scope of activities
  • Organise medical team and other logistics for the medical outreaches
  • Perform M&E for the MCHOP program and activate the sustainability plan
M&E / Program Quality and Reporting
Expected standards
  • Collect and compile M&E data, & compile and submit reports as necessary
  • Maintain records of all sessions, events, minutes of meetings held and ensure these are shared with the program manager and coordinator
  • Participate in the review of data collected from the field and in any planned assessments and reviews for the projects
  • Support volunteers (CHV) to effectively implement their activities as planned
Desired Competencies and Training
  • The incumbent must have a university degree in public health or project planning and management from an accredited institution (Master Degree, preferably)
  • Experience in project management, monitoring and evaluation  
  • Experience in mobilizing communities, community leaders and young people to participate in projects
  • Strong facilitation and report writing skills
  • Knowledge and familiarity with data collection tools  and techniques
  • Experience of budgeting and handling finances
  • Preparedness to work in a rural setting, with basic facilities
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Computer literacy; (word, excel, power point, web and outlook)
  • An ability to plan/schedule work activities independently, with minimum supervision
  • Excellent communication (especially in public) and diplomacy skills to manage relationship in potentially tense situations
  • Good team spirit
