USAID awarded a comprehensive health service delivery project to PATH to improve the health of Kenyans in the western region of the country.  

The project, APHIAplus Western Kenya, builds upon USAID / Kenya’s country-wide health service support project known as the AIDS, Population and Health Integrated Assistance II (APHIA II).  

PATH and its partners are implementing the APHIAplus project within the Counties in the former Western and Nyanza Provinces. 

The project started on January 1, 2011- December 31, 2016, and is currently in a one-year extension to December 2017.  

It works closely with the Government of Kenya and a wide variety of non-government agencies to strengthen health care services throughout the Counties in the two former provinces. 

In addition to addressing specific diseases, the APHIAplus project works on strengthening the region’s health care system by rehabilitating health facilities, training staff, and supporting supply and communication networks.

PATH seeks to recruit a Temporary Monitoring and Evaluation Associate  for a period of  six months who will work closely with the Monitoring & Evaluation team to provide a wide range of support services that ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the team. 

S/he will assist with the management and application of an M & E plan for project, offer assistance to help build capacity of the project stakeholders on M&E and assist with the maintenance of project databases. 

This position will be based in Busia.    

Specific duties and responsibilities: 
  • Support in collection of all monthly project data.
  • Generate reporting rates for project result areas.
  • Participate in project assessment and evaluation activities.
  • Carry out On Job Training & support supervision to facility staffs.
  • Participate in the APHIAplus Western Kenya M&E Working Group.
  • Contribute to the development of project’s performance indicators.
  • Carry out & document Routine Quality Data Audits (RDQA) in all districts
  • Assist with the maintenance of project databases and updating them timely.
  • Offer technical assistance and help build capacity of A+ W stakeholders on M&E.
  • Assist with the management and application of the M&E plan for APHIAplus Western Kenya (A+W)
  • Train & supervise the short-term consultants when conducting M&E work in the Counties/Districts.
  • Assist in data management of OVCs, integrated community outreaches, RHP & youth components of the project.
  • Contribute to gathering of information, report writing, feedback and technical editing for annual results review process
  • Help ensure that program reports are submitted and disseminated in a timely manner and in line with laid down procedures.
  • Help develop protocols, instruments (e.g. questionnaires, checklists, discussion guides and interview forms) for data collection.
  •  Orient and mentor newly recruited CCC staffs and newly promoted District Health Management Team (DHMT) on Health Management of Information Systems (HMIS).
Required Skills
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong documentation skills including report writing.
  • Computer literate; experience in using Ms Office suite.
  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written is essential.
  • Self-starter with ability to operate effectively under stress.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, confidently and appropriately within a cross-cultural environment.
  • Good organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize tasks with little supervision.
Required Experience
  • Bachelors’ degree in relevant field and at least 3 years relevant experience or be in possession of a minimum of Diploma in relevant field with at least 4 years relevant experience. 
  • The individual should have a strong analytical, communication and reporting skills and demonstrated experience in working with MOH health facilities as well as working with CSOs.
You must currently have legal authorization to work in Kenya.
