DSW seeks to recruit a National Team Coordinator- Communications to be based in its Nairobi office. 

This is a full time position and is the link between the International Team Manager dealing with strategic and policy issues on an international DSW overall level and the operationalization at country office level. 

As such the National Team Coordinator - Communication is part of the DSW Project management team as well as the respective Country Office(CO) department.  

(S)He works closely with the ITM-Communications and the national team coordinators of the other country offices in this field. 

(S)He works in close cooperation with the CO Department Manager to ensure the effective and efficient implementation of projects within his/her area of responsibility. 

(S)He also cooperates closely with all other national team coordinators in the country office to effectively link project design, quality implementation and reporting.

General areas of responsibility:

Organizational Development
  • Advise the Department Manager on departmental inputs for strategic, cost-effective and sustainable structures and processes of communications within CO
  • Support the Department Manager with the development of strategies, procedures and guidelines, including editing to assure overall coherence and quality control of publications produced at CO
  • Support the Department Manager in developing training and coaching programs with regard to communications
  • Support in close cooperation with other team coordinators (and the ITM-CO) the development of a CO communications strategy
  • Liaise and support the ITM Communications in the development of core DSW products (e.g. DSW Annual Report, Website) and other project related materials when needed.
  • Support development and delivery of communication and documentation strategies of the various projects including a scheduled bulletin on KCO work
  • Responsible for development of focused press releases, blogs, articles, and building dialogues with journalists.
Team Coordination
  • Coordinate and implement CO media / press outreach and visibility strategies, including CO corporate publications
  • Coordinate Kenya Country Office relevant content on DSW’s English website & blog and Head Office/Country Office social media channels
  • Coordinate and monitor the communications staff including the development of clear goals and targets
  • Coordinate with CO advocacy team and national project managers in planning and implementation of communications materials and online presence
  • Provide technical support, backstopping and resources about the latest developments in the field of communications to the CO communications staff
  • Monitor progress of project implementation against wok plans and budgets
  • Monitor quality improvement and implementation of DSW Corporate Design Manuals
  • Support resource mobilisation efforts to ensure funds for communications programmes are available
Operational responsibilities
  • With guidance from CO management Represents DSW overall perspectives and interests to external and internal stakeholders
  • Support the process of quality control and maintenance of DSW CO websites and social media platforms
  • Assure in cooperation with the other national team coordinators quality editing of major donor reports
  • Coordinate successful implementation of PR campaigning projects
  • Provide functional supervision and guidance on communication staff
Minimum Requirements:
  • Degree in Journalism, Media Studies or Communications from a recognised university (Master’s Degree in similar areas preferred)
  • Excellent command of English and Swahili languages (written and oral) is required.
  • At least 3 years working with an international NGO in a similar role
  • Knowledge of Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights, family planning and global health highly desirable
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, research and writing skills
  • Experience of working in an international team with diplomatic and intercultural skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Ability to be flexible in responding to changing work priorities and work under different reporting lines
  • Strong IT and social media skills
  • Innovative and creative thinker
