Summary of Responsibilities: The Solar Project Monitoring Technician will be responsible for monitoring the performance and maintenance of the IRC Solar project in Kakuma General Hospital. 

 
He/she will be responsible liaising with solar service provider maintenance of all existing IRC Solar units  in Kakuma and supervision of new Solar constructions in all sites in Kakuma.

Over all Responsibilities: The Solar Project Monitoring Technician will work directly with the Health Team Leader and staff at facilities to ensure all guidance and the solar SOPs provided by the service provider are adhered to and ensure timely and cost effective and sustainable solar power systems through the constant monitoring of the project. 

The Solar Project Monitoring Technician will report to the Supply Chain
Key Tasks:
  • Oversee the performance of the solar project and ensure all SOPs and guidance are adhered to. By staff and patients.
  • Optimize solar system uptime.
  • Develop and implement an Energy Management Plan (EMP) for the premises
  • Verify all new wiring and assess the impact on the system.
  • Inspect all new equipment and advise on use it and its effect on the system.
  • Oversee and supervise all solar set up and activities for IRC Kakuma site.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the solar equipment and solar materials bought meet the required specifications.
  • Keeping track and maintain of all IRC Solar project tools and equipment.
  • Train national staff and incentives on proper monitoring and maintenance of the solar system.
  • Orientation and training of guards to monitor and report any strange or concerns of the solar system.
  • Monitor the load and ensure there is adequate load balancing all the time.
  • Ensure appropriate bulbs and lights are in place as well as appropriate cabling for a solar project.
  • Oversee design and installation of a power back-up system for the Laboratory and theatre and other critical areas of the hospital.
  • Ensure monthly and scheduled servicing of the system is done as planned.
  • Ensure periodical cleaning and maintain of the solar house and its environs.
  • Support the procurement and use of quality solar materials and verification upon delivery.
  • Work with the health Team  Leader  to make assessments of the IRC facilities sanitation systems
  • Provide weekly performance reports of the solar system to both the vendor and IRC.
  • Compile and file all system documents including user manuals, as-built drawings etc
Expected Deliverables:
  • Liaise with service provider (contractor) to develop an operation, maintenance and troubleshooting SOP for each solar system installed
  • Provide reports on the  performance of the solar project, including energy savings
  • An Energy Management Plan (EMP) for the premises
  • Orientation of staff and other users on all SOPs and guidance related to the solar project.
  • Supervise all new wiring and assess the impact on the system.
  • Inspection of all new equipment and advice on use and its effect on the system.
  • Supervision of all new solar set up and activities for IRC Kakuma site, to ensure all equipment supplied meets specifications, and the scope of work is adhered to.
  • Safety and security of the solar equipment.
  • Verification of all solar materials bought to meet the required specifications.
  • Train national staff and incentives on proper monitoring and maintenance of the solar system.
  • Orientation and training of guards.
  • Monitor the load and ensure there is adequate load balancing all the time.
  • Install and replace appropriate bulbs and lights.
  • Schedule monthly and scheduled servicing of the system is done by the vendor.
  • Undertake any other responsibility assigned by the supervisor
Required Qualification:
  • Advanced Diploma in solar operations or related field with hands on experience in Hospital operations.
  • Solar PV Technician License by Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), Class T2
Required Experience & Competencies:
  • Two  years’ experience in solar projects and general electrical projects
  • Strong supervisory experience
  • Strong report and collaboration skills
  • Cultural and diversity sensitivity, commitment and an understanding of the values of IRC and the principles of equal opportunities.
