About our organization: The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is a non-profit global research organization that generates science-based knowledge about the diverse and important roles that trees play in agricultural landscapes and rural livelihoods. 

 
The Center’s vision is rural transformation in the developing world, as family farmers use tree-based solutions based in agroforestry to improve food security, nutrition, income, soil, human and ecosystem health, and to help them adapt to and mitigate climate change. 

With the multidisciplinary research and the knowledge they generate, ICRAF and its partners advance policies and practices that benefit the poor and the environment.
 
The Center’s headquarters are in Nairobi, Kenya, and it conducts research in more than 30 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. ICRAF is a member of a consortium of 15 independent agricultural research centres known as the CGIAR.

The Head of Operations provides overall leadership to the Operations Unit by ensuring optimal utilization of resources in a way that contributes to efficiency and cost effectiveness. 

As well as ensuring a clean and safe working environment for staff and various clients, the Head of Operations works with the Director of Corporate Services, to develop and implement policies and procedures and training activities related to operational efficiency.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement Operations Unit policies and procedures.
  2. Supervision and performance management of Operations team.
  3. Management and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reporting for operations.
  4. Planning and budgeting.
  5. Management of outsourced service providers.
  6. Vehicle fleet and group transport management.
  7. Liaison and service provision for hosted institutions
  8. Health and Safety compliance
  9. Business Continuity Planning
Required Academic and Professional Qualifications: Masters degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Operations/Facilities Management or another business related discipline.
 
Required Skills and Competencies:
  • 10 years of experience in operations, administration, facilities management with a least 5 years in a managerial capacity
  • Experience of budgeting and financial management procedures
  • Ability to take initiative to identify opportunities and take appropriate action, to organize and manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multicultural team.
  • Experience and qualifications in a Shared Services context an advantage.

The appointment will be for an initial period of three (3) years, subject to a six (6) month probation period.
