Deputy Underwriting Manager (General Business) Job in Kenya

Job Vacancy: Deputy Underwriting Manager – General Business

Primary Responsibility: To manage all underwriting functions and ensure that proper underwriting is carried out at all levels.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure that underwriting function supports business objectives.
  • Ensure that underwriting processes and procedures are observed by branches.
  • Periodically review the underwriting manual and communicate to the relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure that the Company’s underwriting documents meet regulatory benchmarks including
  • Ensure quotations are processed within the set benchmarks.
  • Ensure that underwritten risks adhere to the Reinsurance program and that Cessioning, Facultative Reinsurance, Retrocession and Reinsurance commissions are negotiated before acceptance or floating of offers.
  • Ensure compliance with various regulatory issues that affect underwriting
  • Oversee the processing of IPF/Asset Finance for clients.
  • Manage the renewal process to meet renewal targets.
  • Generate, analyze and submit various reports as required from time to time
Requirements
  • Business Degree from a recognized university but preferably in Insurance, Actuarial Science, Economics, Business Administration while an MBA will be added advantage.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in General Insurance at management level
  • Proficiency in use of computer applications
  • Professionally qualified -  AIIK or ACII
  • In depth knowledge of Underwriting process, practices and emerging trends within the industry
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, a team player with excellent communication, analytical, negotiation and mediation skills
