Introduction: Eastern Deanery AIDS Relief Program was established in 1993 as a response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic. We operate in Eastlands area of Nairobi County. 

We have a total of 14 Clinics and a Network of Laboratories; all located in the Eastern Part of Nairobi County and currently providing care and treatment services to over 25,000 patients. 

We offer HIV Counseling and Testing; Care and Treatment for HIV/TB; Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision; Ante-Natal Care / Prevention Mother to Child Care and Treatment; and Child Welfare Clinics.

Specification: As a Pediatrician you will be the Team Leader of EDARPs Clinical Team handling children. 

You will oversee provision of high quality care and treatment of the children and support clinical staff in management of general examination and treatment of little patients and help in preventing diseases and illness complications and Comprehensive TB / HIV/ AIDS care provided in EDARP and in accordance with Ministry of Health / WHO guidelines and EDARP Protocols.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • You will oversee provision of quality care and treatment of children in EDARP.
  • Support clinical staff in management of general medical and Comprehensive TB/HIV/AIDS care provided in EDARP.
  • Making all clinical decisions regarding the children’s care in EDARP and provide consultation in the clinics
  • Conduct regular thorough examinations on new-borns and young children to check and record their health and normal physical development
  • Examine sick children to determine their condition and ask intuitive questions to gather information about symptoms
  • Reach an informed diagnosis based on scientific knowledge and individual medical history
  • Prescribe medications and give detailed instructions for administration
  • Prescribe and interpret appropriate lab tests to gain more information for possible infections or abnormalities
  • Advise parents on children’s diet, exercise and disease preventive measures
  • Keep abreast of advancements in pediatrics and best practices by attending seminars and conferences
  • Participating in the multi-disciplinary team management of patients, including the attendance at relevant case presentations
  • Identify gaps in provision of services and facilitate training for EDARP health care providers
  • Ensuring all Clinical documentation meets donor, and legal requirements
  • Attend and participate in senior management clinical review meetings
  • Working in accordance with Ministry of Health / WHO guidelines and EDARP Protocols of care to ensure national standards are maintained and delivery of quality of services
  • Assist in the development and management of required data tools into be used in health information systems
  • Consult, liaise and / or partner with other key partners, committees, organisations or groups from within and external to the organisation as directed by the management
Professional Qualification:

1. Medical Degree with specialization in paediatrics from a recognized university.
2. Trained in rational use of Antiretroviral Treatment in Adults and Children.
3. Licensed as a Private Medical Practitioner by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board .

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Attributes):
  • TB, HIV/ART Training.
  • Proven experience as a paediatrician.
  • Up to speed knowledge of drugs/medication appropriate for children and their side-effects.
  • Outstanding diagnostic and problem solving abilities.
  • Excellent Interpersonal and communication skills.
  • In depth knowledge of children epidemiology and infectious diseases.
  • Exquisite knowledge of diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation principles and techniques.
  • Responsibility and Leadership skills – accept responsibility when appropriate, motivate subordinates, and elicit respect.
  • Excellent evaluation and Analytical Skills.
  • Personal Organisation Skills – structured, organised and methodical, making good use of time.
  • Ability to work under pressure and achieve desired results
