Kenyatta University seeks to recruit competent and dedicated person to fill up the following position:
 
Council Secretary
 
Key qualifications and experience:
  • Bachelor of Law (LL.B) Degree or its equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
  • Must be a Certified Public Secretary (CPS-K)
  • Current membership of LSK and ICPS Kenya.
  • Must be an advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
  • At least ten (10) years working experience in a large corporation and currently holding a similar or equivalent position.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, thorough ability to use the relevant computer applications.
  • Must have strong organizational and analytical skills.
In addition to Bachelor of Law Degree, applicants with Masters Degree in Law or a Business related Masters Degree will have an added advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Serve as secretary to Council and all its Committees.
  2. Assist the Council in carrying out the following: Council induction and training, Updating the Council and Committee Charters, Prepare Council Work Plans, Board Evaluation, and Governance Audit.
  3. In consultation with the Vice Chancellor, ensure Council meetings and business are conducted satisfactorily.
  4. Work closely with Council Committee Chairs to ensure that Committee meetings and business are conducted satisfactorily.
  5. Offer guidance to Council on its responsibilities and how to discharge them, as outlined in the Universities Act, University Charter, Statutes and all other relevant laws.
  6. Alert and advice the Council on issues that may bring about conflicts between the Vice-Chancellor and the Council.
  7. Ensure that the Council adopts best practice in conducting their business
  8. Manage council communication to students, staff and other stake holders.
  9. Perform any other duties as may be required from time to time
Terms of Service

The appointment will be for a contractual period of three (3) years renewable subject to satisfactory performance and delivery of set performance targets and outcomes.
 
The successful candidate for the position will be offered a competitive remuneration package in accordance with the University employment and engagement guidelines.
