Database and Systems Administrator Job in Nairobi, Kenya

Our client is a leading British Curriculum based school located in Nairobi, Kenya, with an established status in the region educational sphere.

It comprises three schools; an Early Years school, a Preparatory school and a Secondary school.
 
Our Client seeks to recruit a Database / Systems Administrator who will be responsible for the performance, integrity and security of a database and systems. 

 
They will also be involved in the planning and development of the database, as well as troubleshooting any issues on behalf of the users. 

They will have the following responsibilities:
  • Identify database requirements; analyzing department applications, programming, and operations; evaluating existing systems and designing proposed systems in liaison with ICT Manager.
  • Installation, patching, and upgrade of databases and related Application.
  • Recommend solutions by defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications in consultation with the line manager.
  • Install revised or new systems by proposing specifications and recommending optimum access techniques and coordinating installation requirements.
  • Maintain database performance by calculating optimum values for database parameters; implementing new releases; competing maintenance requirements; evaluating computer operating systems and hardware products.
  • Maintenance of scripts for running databases processes on the host for execution at proper times.
  • Monitoring Database and systems security alerts for new vulnerabilities and addressing them.
  • Support database functions by designing and coding utilities in relation to underlying OS and patches updates.
  • Maintain quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state of the art practices/ participating in professional societies.
Desirable Competencies
  • Ability to multitask and maintain high level accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good understanding of programming and scripting.
  • Vast knowledge with all Operating Systems platforms (Windows, Linux/Unix and Mac).
  • Good knowledge of Database, Systems and networks security.
  • Knowledge in software and Application Integration.
  • Good analytical skills in problem solving.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum undergraduate degree in ICT or related field. Additional certifications will be an added advantage (DBMS, MCSE, CCNA).
  • Minimum 2 years of demonstrated experience in similar role.
