Job Title: Regional Business Development Manager, SME

Division: Retail Banking.
 
Reporting to: Head, SME & Micro Banking.
 
 
Position Scope: The successful candidate will be responsible for achievement of business growth objectives by ensuring implementation of SME Banking strategic initiatives within the assigned region and offering leadership to the Business Relationship Officers, SME
 
Key responsibilities
 
A) Business Development
  • Implement the SME Banking business strategy in line with the Bank’s overall strategy and business growth plan.
  • Work closely with stakeholders in Regional Management, Branch Management teams and Credit to increase market share of the SME Banking segment in terms of customer numbers, products and service consumption and revenues while proactively reducing the non-performing loan book.
  • Drive sales through effective leadership, guidance and performance management process within the branch network and relationships.
  • Working directly with Branch Managers and Business Relationship officers to drive account utilization and hence cheap and stable deposits.
  • Drive transactional income from SME Banking clients through effective customer service and cross selling the entire range of banking and banc assurance products and services.
  • Identify and capitalize on new market opportunities to expand presence, competitiveness and profitability by proactively selling products and services.
  • Improve the business environment and raising the profile for the SME segment in the Bank.
  • Establish profitable banking relationships with SME clients by providing high quality banking and other financial services to SMEs where the Bank operates.
  • Advice the Bank on SME market analysis and segmentation with regards to SME financial products, credit Risk evaluation processes, loan monitoring, collections and debt recovery procedures.
  • In liaison with other stakeholders, ensure quality portfolio by effective identification of risks and their mitigations.
B) Credit appraisal & approval
  • New business acquisition in the SME Banking segment.
  • Ensure customers receive prompt feedback on the fate of their applications.
  • Make appropriate recommendations for cases presented to the Credit Committee.
C) Monitoring and Control of the SME Banking portfolio
  • Ensuring compliance with Bank’s Credit Policy and Government regulations.
  • Regularly monitor all performing accounts within the assigned region.
  • Maintain and evaluate quality of Loans to ensure compliance with lending guidelines.
  • Support and coordinate post disbursement loan monitoring through loan clients visits
  • Ensure quality loan book all times.
  • Periodically and when need be, support branches on loan recovery through;-
  • Visit to borrowers in arrears.
  • Advise/assist in the recovery process.
D) Performance Management
  • Responsible for overall SME business performance in the assigned region/cluster of branches.
  • Closely and continuously monitor performance of the assigned Business Relationship Officers, SME .
  • Conduct required periodic appraisals on the Business Relationship Officers, SME and provide appropriate recommendations.
  • Support the assigned Business Relationship Officers, SME to achieve their performance targets.
Skills & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Studies, Economics or Banking/Finance
  • Credit management training
  • CPA (K)
  • At least 5 years’ experience in SME in the Banking Industry.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in management and leadership role.
  • SME finance Credit analysis skills
  • Excellent sales/marketing, excellent presentation, communication, negotiation, customer service and relationship management skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Ability to accurately plan work assignments, prioritize tasks and deliver deadlines
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Flexible – ability to travel across the country frequently.
