OHS Consultant Job in Tanzania

Our client a leading international Telecommunications Firm seeks to recruit a OHS Consultant for immediate placement in Tanzania for a period of one year.  

The Consultant will drive and/or participate in customer engagements from lead generation to contract fulfilment in agreement with the Key Account Manager. 

The incumbent will ensure that consulting projects are fulfilled and delivered in time, at a high quality and within budget.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform business development (to grow organizational business and Consulting Services);
  • Drive sales engagements and deliver consulting projects;
  • Support the development of OHS policies and programs;
  • Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics (use of machinery etc.);
  • Conduct risk assessment and enforce preventative measures;
  • Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislation;
  • Initiate and organize OHS training of employees and executives;
  • Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g. not using protective equipment);
  • Oversee installations, maintenance, disposal of substances etc;
  • Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy;
  • Record and investigate incidents to determine causes and handle worker’s compensation claims;
  • Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management requirements;
  • Implements high OHS requirements which comply with and fulfill at all times organizational and client requirements;
  • Ensure strict consequence management in place for non-conformance to their OHS requirements;
  • Ensure compliance with Clients OHS requirements, proper OHS management of ASP (Contractors) as required;
  • Facilitate / conduct OHS inspections and OHS audits as required with ASP's to ensure compliance with overall OHS requirements
  • Assist the organization’s Project Management Team to ensure compliance with OHS Requirements.
  • Ensure OHS changes are implemented in projects as local legislation and Client requirement are reviewed and changes implemented;
  • Add value to the customer by analyzing and proposing improvements on customers’ processes, operations, organization, IT or network.
  • Support short and long-term profitable business by interacting closely with our customer teams to identify new business opportunities that benefit both our customers and the organization.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related field
  • A minimum of 5 years relevant experience; in Occupational Health and Safety
  • In depth knowledge of legislation (e.g. OSHA/EPA) and procedures
  • Experience in writing reports and policies for health and safety
  • Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
  • Proficient in MS Office; Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plus
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Diligent with great attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics
  • Certification in  occupational health and safety
