Catholic University Director for Quality Assurance and Academic Programmes

The Catholic University of Eastern Africa wishes to recruit a dynamic, qualified and result oriented person to fill the position of Director for Quality Assurance and Academic Programmes.
  • Provide leadership in championing and promoting quality assurance to ensure that the University offers quality research, teaching/learning and community service;
  • Formulate strategies and plans for effective and efficient implementation of quality assurance programmes;
  • To ensure timely review and development of academic programmes.

Organizational Relationship: Reports to the Office of Vice Chancellor.
  1. Plan and direct Quality Assurance Programmes;
  2. Provision of leadership on the strategic direction for Quality Assurance for the organization;
  3. Oversee the implementation of internal quality assurance with the collaboration of all function heads;
  4. To ensure that CUEA policy on curriculum development is in consonance with the CUE (Commission For University Education) Guidelines for designing curriculum for University Academic Programmes.
  5. To coordinate the inspection of academic programmes and facilities by regulating bodies such as CUE;
  6. To provide the link between CUEA and accreditation bodies (CUE, Interuniversity council of eastern Africa) on academic programme development and harmonization of university education in the region;
  7. Present regular reports to the Management Board on functioning of the CUEA Quality Assurance System and the performance of QMS; and advise on the areas of improvement;
  8. To oversee the evaluation of Academic programmes for CUEA, Constituent Colleges and Affiliate Institutions before presentation to CUE.
  9. Ensure that the quality assurance evaluations are carried out and analyzed on time;
  10. Coordinate the Quality Management Committee;
  11. Coordinate the ISO Core Committee;
  12. Formulate plans for training and sensitization programmes for quality assurance;
  13. Liaise with external parties on matters of quality assurance on behalf of CUEA;
  14. Represent the Directorate in the University Management Board, Senate and other committees;
  15. Ensure the processes needed for QMS are established, implemented and maintained;
  16. Ensure that Management Review Meetings are held in consultation with the Vice Chancellor and that all recommendations are implemented;
  17. Ensure the promotion of awareness of customer requirement throughout the organization;
  18. Represent the Directorate in the University Management Board, Senate and other committees;
  19. Oversee budget development and implementation as the Chief Accounting Officer of the Directorate;
  20. Ensure effective implementation of performance management system in the Directorate;
  21. Promote University’ Mission, Vision and Core Values;
  22. Perform any other duties appertaining to quality assurance as may be assigned by the Vice Chancellor.
  • Should have a PhD or its equivalent;
  • Should have at least seven (7) years’ experience in senior administrative and academic leadership position;
  • Should be at least at the level Senior Lecturer;
  • Should be an outstanding scholar with a proven record in promoting ethical scientific research, quality teaching/learning and community service in the University;
  • Should have outstanding organizing, people mobilization and negotiating skills;
  • Should be customer oriented with a clear understanding of the University’s customers’ needs, preferences and interests.
  • Ability to offer leadership in higher education, quality promotion and assurance;
  • Evidence of in-depth and extensive knowledge of higher education and related quality assurance policies, processes and issues;
  • Experience in teaching in higher education;
  • Should have knowledge about the emerging trends, practices and policies affecting University education in Kenya and beyond;
  • Must be a team player;
  • Should be result-oriented with a passion for quality services;
  • Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Must be a person of integrity; morally upright and mature;
  • Must be able to work under minimum supervision;
  • He/she should be flexible and adaptable enough to work in a multicultural environment;
  • Should have the ability to guide and mentor students.
