IIRR Regional Training and Capacity Development Specialist

The International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) is seeking to hire an experienced and competent Regional Training and Capacity Development Specialist who will be based at one of IIRR’s country offices in eastern Africa.

General Description: The Regional Training and Capacity Development Specialist is responsible for effective planning and implementation of all IIRR training, customized courses and other capacity development initiatives like study programs and consultancies in line with program goals and objectives. 

 
The post holder will be based either in Nairobi, Kenya or Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and reports to the Africa Regional Director.
 
Key Responsibilities
  1. Plan, implement and evaluate international/regional/national training, customized courses and other capacity development initiatives such as study programs and consultancies.
  2. Develop marketing strategy for training and capacity development and ensure its effective implementation.
  3. Make IIRR training and capacity development program profitable which contributes to supporting community development efforts of the institute.
  4. Ensure effectiveness and relevance of all training and capacity development activities adaptive to various needs and audience.
  5. Ensure all IIRR training and capacity development activities are innovative and practical enriched with learning by doing and other participatory methods/tools.
  6. Integrate information technology as an integral component of learning and capacity development including development and implementation of online courses.
  7. Build a pool of IIRR trainers and consultants/associates competent in various subjects areas that IIRR offers training and capacity development services, and supervise their function
  8. Effectively link trainings and capacity development services to IIRR field work in each country and develop case studies and other learning materials based on IIRR field experiences.
  9. Work and coordinate with IIRR country and regional teams (including Asia Region) and support IIRR field programs when requested
Requirements
  • Have a master’s degree in development management, business, education, sociology or other related discipline.
  • At least five (5) years’ experience as trainer/facilitator in training and capacity development organization/field at national or regional position.
  • Is a business minded entrepreneur with demonstrable skill and practical experience that make a business a profitable venture.
  • Experienced, acclaimed and inspiring facilitator committed to participatory learning and action who possess advanced skill in the use of participatory tools/methods
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as excellent analytical skill
  • Have good understanding of the context of capacity development including key competitors within the development community in Eastern and Southern Africa.
  • Deep understanding, skill and experience in rural development; disaster risk reduction and climate change; participatory monitoring, evaluation and learning; gender and development; organizational development and leadership development; result based management; food security and watershed management and knowledge management and documentation are highly desirable and advantage.
