Plant Manager Job in Kenya

Job Title: Plant Manager

Reporting to: General Manager
Supervisory Responsibilities: Overall Control and Supervision of Production Processes
Position Summary: To be responsible and accountable for the production processes within time-bound framework, requisite quality and the targeted cost. 

Ensure maximum machine throughput and minimal downtime, health and safety administration and oversight role over production shift staff, Monitoring and regular reporting on production progress and performance against KPIs and Service Level Agreement (SLA), Manage repair/rework authorization and spares, materials and tool movement within the plant, manage communication amongst the production team, analyzing of production efficiency, production planning, materials planning and forecasting based on sales orders, liaising with Supply Chain Operations on materials and stock re-orders, people management, liaising with sales and marketing team on product development, compliance with statutory requirements, budgeting and plant resourcing, liaising with Finance on Profit and Loss reporting including driving strategies to meet organization’s objectives and goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Daily, weekly and monthly reporting on production performance against KPIs and SLA.
  • Production scheduling including machines utilization based on order forecast.
  • Manage repair/rework authorization, spares, materials and tool movement within the plant.
  • Manage quality, health and safety scope at the production level.
  • Maintain an accurate equipment up/down-time and repair log including recurrent cases and share the same with management.
  • Monitor and report on the planned equipment maintenance program and calibration schedule.
  • Manage communication between production staff on a regular basis and update the management team of the daily activities at the plant.
  • Product development in liaison with sales and marketing team.
  • People management including performance appraisal, couching and mentoring
  • Production and materials planning and coordination of logistics with Supply Chain operations.
  • Preparation of plant budgets, profit and loss accounting and reporting in liaison with Finance.
  • Formulation of plant strategies to meet organizations objectives and goals.
  • Training of newly recruited workers and allocating them tasks depending on their competencies, skills and abilities
  • Resource optimization including shift design, machines’ efficiency, staff resource utilization etc.
  • Perform a Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for all quality, health and safety incidents and follow up on implementation of programs to prevent recurrence.
  • Take custody of all onsite records and documentations pertaining to materials issued, product, wastes, tools, staff attendance and machine efficiency.
Qualifications & Attributes
  • BSc Degree or HND in Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical Engineering or Production Technology or Chemistry or equivalent from a reputable institution.
  • At least five years experience in heavy engineering or manufacturing environment preferably in the paint manufacturing sector.
  • A good understanding of quality, health and safety management
  • Working knowledge of paint production operations
  • Excellent managerial, interpersonal and analytical skills and focused leadership;
  • Ability to demonstrate sound decision making and judgment capabilities, integrity and self-driven;
  • Time management skills
  • To perform effectively in this position, the individual should demonstrate the following competencies.

Provides clear direction, necessary information and support to staff or colleagues. Encourages staff to perform to their maximum capacity. Takes responsibility for his/her actions, and is willing to be held accountable for them. Engages in and encourages others in continuous learning.
IT Knowledge required in the role: indicate the applications, operating systems, information systems etc that the position holder needs to be competent in to perform in the role. Indicate whether the knowledge required is basic, intermediary or advanced.
